You may have heard of the “law of attraction”; it says that “-whatever you think about, tends to expand!”. Thus, when you have negative thoughts you tend to attract negative outcomes, whereas positive thinking gives rise to abundance in every aspect of your life. But, is this true? Does the law of attraction really work, and if yes how?
As Bob Proctor, the well-known success coach and author says, the law of attraction is in fact the “law of vibration”, meaning that things are attracted when their “vibrations” resonate with each other. For instance, if you are thinking of your financial struggles, you tend to attract similarly-minded people to your life, with whom you may share your worries, thus reinforcing a negative thinking pattern to be reproduced, along with corresponding situations.
Sometimes our vibrations, the “messages” we send out to the external world, are unconscious, stemming from our emotional luggage. Negative emotions carried over for a long period of time (guilt, shame, anger, fear, sadness, anxiety) lead us to vibrate at low (negative) frequencies; instead, positive emotional states such as gratitude, confidence, contentment, joy, hope and love, produce higher (positive) vibrations, thus bringing about positive outcomes in our life.
In a similar vein, research conducted by Barbara Fredrickson (“the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions”) has found that when people experience positive emotions, they are more open to explore new perspectives and capable of discovering solutions; they become more creative, increase their social bonds with other people, thus broadening their intellectual, social and psychological resources and setting up the basis for successful subsequent endeavors.
Therefore, to enjoy better results, start thinking of what you want to attract, rather than what’s missing in your life; focus on what’s desired and positive. Every morning you wake up, spend few minutes thinking of 3 things you’re grateful for (be them either small, as the fact you’re enjoying a cup of flavorous coffee or bigger, such as having a good friend who loves you). Then, for 2-3 minutes, visualize your ideal / dream situation, how would you like things to be? Imagine yourself being healthy, energetic, resourceful, wealthy and happy; make this mental movie as vivid as possible by adding color, music, smells and emotions to it.
Keep a positive attitude towards the people you meet during the day, smile to everyone, keep calm and composed, regardless of whatever comes about; don’t let obstacles and worries beat you down. Finally, let go of any negative emotions of the past, forget and forgive whoever has hurt you, forgive yourself for not being perfect and let love and joy fill your mind, heart and soul!
